John Waters has spent his working life as a practitioner, teacher, researcher and consultant, gaining extensive experience in the management of technology, the marketing of new products, and the strategic planning process.
He worked for 3M Australia in senior-management positions before teaching postgraduate courses in the management of innovation and business creation strategies at the University of Sydney and the Macquarie Graduate School of Management. He has consulted with companies in the steel, electricity supply and defense electronic industries.
John has undergraduate degrees in engineering and psychology, and postgraduate research degrees in psychology and management. His research has concerned decision-making in turbulent environments, and the roles of knowledge and commitment in innovation. He is a certified practitioner of The Kirton Adaption-Innovation inventory, an instrument used in training for leadership, team building and the management of diversity. His focus is on working with leaders to create robust strategic plans that are successfully implemented by their teams.
